A contact person is the person who knows a climate action or indicator best. They are responsible for following up on it and keeping its information up to date on the Kausal platform. We call them contact persons because their contact details are usually shown on the public plan site.
Most contact persons keep their actions up to date, but not everyone always does. The Kausal platform sends automatic reminders when an action, task or indicator hasn't been updated for a set period. You can also see at a glance when each action was last updated, and how up to date each department's actions are. This lets climate coordinators focus their support on the contact persons who need it, especially for the most important actions. Sometimes a missing update is a sign that an action needs more clarification.
Getting started takes some work: agreeing on targets and naming a contact person for each action. Most cities have to do that work anyway, and the Kausal platform makes it easier. After that, climate experts typically spend less time chasing updates and more time moving actions forward. The one thing to watch is balance: if one person owns too many actions, it can become a burden, and the work may need to be shared out differently.
Yes. The contact person should be whoever knows the action best, even if they work for another organisation, such as the city's public utilities. People without city credentials can get a Kausal platform username linked to any email address.
In our experience, it works best when each person follows up on only a few climate actions. That keeps the quality of each action's progress high. The platform doesn't set a limit, though, so each city can find the balance that suits it.
